AIMREC is an ambitious project to develop an exciting, innovative and immersive visitor attraction for families and hobby enthusiasts based on the display and interpretation model railways. AIMREC has a collection of notable model railways including Gresley Beat, Pempoul and the winning layouts from the 2019 series of Channel 5's Great Model Railway Challenge
AIMREC is looking for a long term home for these and many other layouts to create an exciting visitor attraction that has broad appeal to families and hobby enthusiasts seeking entertainment, education and inspiration, pre-school to old-school. AIMREC is promoted by Ashford Model Railway Museum (AMRM), Registered Charity 1168774 set up to conserve, display and interpret model railways, particularly those of historic interest.
AIMREC has a strong business case and is looking for partners who can see the potential in the project in order to provide start-up funding and longer-term investment. It will provide a focal point for educational, social well-being and volunteering activities and support training in technology, arts & crafts and visitor attraction management. Permanent jobs will be created and the scheme is perfectly suited to town-centre regeneration by re-purposing large-scale empty retail space.
AIMREC opened a studio and workshop in November 2021 to promote the project and enable visitors to meet the team. You can see the GMRC layouts in action alongside examples of other model railways in different scales and sizes and some special displays linked to railways and the hobby.
